General Planning
The planning effort has established a recommended physical planning concept for the Institute. This concept recognizes that there are different needs for the various types of spaces associated with the program, including location of program elements. Some program elements and their location include:
Floor Program
2nd Floor: (at grade level) Mechanical room, building support & loading docks
3rd Floor: (Walkway level) Institute Administration Library, Gallery, Lobby & Core Labs
4th Floor: Generic Open Labs, Offices, Support & Interaction Areas
5th Floor: Generic Open Labs, Offices, Support & Interaction Areas
6th Floor: Generic Open Labs, Offices, Support & Interaction Areas
Penthouse: Mechanical, Electrical & Exhaust Equipment
- The total laboratory program is 102 single laboratory modules and 57 Principal Investigator’s/support offices.
- Total Building Population is expected to be 325 -375 people.
Planning Requirements
The planning concept for the proposed laboratory accommodates the following established planning requirements:
- Modularity Space Allocation on Similar/Incremental Basis
- Flexibility Change Space Function and Size
- Adaptability Add and/or Delete Functions within a Given Space
- Serviceability Durable Ease of Maintenance Ease of Installation
- Efficiency Space Optimization Space/Systems to Support Needs
- Interactivity Promotes Communication among its Users
- Expandability Can Easily Accommodate Future Growth
- Cost Effectiveness Use of Appropriate Systems Where Required Wise/Balanced Use of Resources
- Aesthetics Retains its visual appeal
- Safety Ensures Safe Operation and Observation Provides location of Safety Components
