Dana Building Phase II Renovations

Overview

This project has been funded by the State of Michigan. The Office of Design and Construction, of the State’s Department of Management and Budget is responsible for administering the state capital outlay program and in conjunction with the U of M Architecture, Engineering and Construction is managing the design and construction for this project.

The Phase II renovations will involve major systems upgrades including new plumbing, heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, plus significant improvements to fire protection and electrical systems. In addition, new program facilities will be created on the fourth floor, and most spaces not recently renovated will be renovated as part of Phase II.

Phase II renovations are intended to achieve the “Greening of Dana” sustainable environment design agenda established by the School of Natural Resources and Environment. Generally, this agenda defines a broad spectrum of sustainable design strategies and requirements, “green” material and building systems, and construction practices and procedures intended to maximize the “health” of the built environment while minimizing the adverse impacts on the natural environment both during and after construction.

Construction will be phased to allow occupancy of the building during construction and to allow major construction to take place during the summers of 2000, 2001, and 2002.
