West Hall Renovation

Overview

This project has been funded by the State of Michigan. The Office of Design and Construction, of the State’s Department of Management and Budget is responsible for administering the state capital outlay program and in conjunction with the U of M Architecture, Engineering and Construction is managing the design and construction for this project.

The renovation will involve a complete demolition and renovation of parts of the first, second and fourth floors and infrastructure upgrades to the remainder of the building. Upon completion the entire building will be fully sprinklered, have a modern fire alarm system, and be fully air conditioned. The construction in the renovated areas will include new plumbing, heating, cooling, ventilation, fire protection and electrical systems. Some work is expected for the exterior such as repair of gutters and leaders and brick pointing.

The academic units which will move into new spaces are Anthropology and Statistics. The existing academic units which will have improvements to their infrastructure are Physics, Naval Architecture and the School of Information.

Construction will be completed in phases and will begin this summer. Completion is expected January 2004.
