This project will renovate the existing University of Michigan-Flint Recreation Center to support the university’s participation in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and women’s volleyball. The project will renovate approximately 80,000 gross square feet and include installation of a wood sports flooring system throughout the gymnasium, spectator seating for approximately 800 fans, scoreboards and a sound system for the competition courts, and a concession area for use during games. The entry lobbies will be renovated to separate ticketed spectators from recreation center members, and the locker room area will be reconfigured to provide separate facilities for members and student-athletes. The project will also create a new sports medicine suite and add public restrooms to support the increased spectator capacity. The scope includes the architectural, electrical, and mechanical work necessary to complete these improvements. Although some adjacent parking spaces will be temporarily unavailable during construction, there will be no permanent impact on parking.
